The Spanish National Center for Sports Integrity and Gambling, known as Cenpida, has commenced an inquiry into a suspected incident of match manipulation in the Copa del Rey domestic club football competition.
Cenpida has started an investigation into a Copa del Rey match that is suspected of being fixed.
La Liga, the governing body of the knockout competition, contacted Cenpida after receiving information from an anonymous source regarding the match between CD Huracán Melilla and Levante in December 2021.
Levante, a team in the top division of Spanish football, La Liga, won the first-round match 8-0. At the time, CD Huracán Melilla was competing in the Primera División Autonómica de Melilla, the sixth level of Spanish football.
Although the specifics of the accusations have not been revealed, it has been confirmed that the Second Investigative Court of Melilla has opened an inquiry into the matter and has questioned six individuals connected to CD Huracán Melilla.
La Liga has emphasized that Levante is not implicated in any of the information being investigated.
La Liga stated: “These anonymous reports received through our reporting channels demonstrate the trust placed in La Liga’s Integrity and Security department’s collaboration with the police and relevant authorities in detecting and reporting potential match-fixing incidents.”
Betis, a Spanish club, triumphed over Valencia in the Copa del Rey final in April of 2022. Levante, another Spanish team, was eliminated by Alcoyano in a penalty shootout during the second round of the competition.
