The Ontario gaming regulatory body, the AGCO, recently issued significant penalties to three internet gambling entities, totaling $70,000 CAD (around $51,700 USD). The companies were cited for neglecting to guarantee the independent verification of their slot games for equitable play.
LeoVegas received the most substantial fine at $25,000 for featuring uncertified games on its Ontario platform. Bunchberry Limited was also penalized $15,000 for comparable infractions.
Mobile Incorporated Limited faced a heftier $30,000 sanction. In addition to hosting numerous uncertified games, the AGCO determined that the game developers themselves lacked registration with the commission – a serious violation.
Tom Mungham, CEO and Registrar of the AGCO, stressed the paramount importance of upholding a fair and open gaming landscape in Ontario. He affirmed the AGCO’s rigorous standards for all registered operators concerning responsible gaming practices, player safeguards, and game integrity. A cornerstone of this framework is the mandate for all games to originate from registered providers and undergo fairness certification by independent testing facilities sanctioned by the AGCO.
The message is unambiguous: Online gamblers in Ontario are entitled to anticipate equitable gameplay. The AGCO is dedicated to ensuring this outcome.
The digital gaming world in Ontario, a relatively new development in Canada, emerged in April 2022. Pioneers in the field, they were the initial province to fully welcome internet-based gaming.
And the results seem promising! Their inaugural market analysis, published just this month, declared a substantial $1.4 billion in overall gaming earnings. That’s a remarkable beginning for a market that’s just getting started.
